Copyright does not protect ideas, names or titles, or functional or industrial articles.
Purpose of Copyright
- Copyright allows creators to gain economic rewards, encouraging future creativity and new material.
- Works are usually the result of creative skill and/or significant labour and/or investment.
- Without protection, very easy for others to exploit material without paying the creator.
- Copyright protection is automatic as soon as there is a record in any form of the material that has been created, and there is no official registration or form or fee.
- Most uses of copyright material requires permission from the copyright owner.
Myths about Copyright!
- If it doesn't have a © symbol, it's not covered by copyright.
- Giving it away does not infringe copyright.
- Information on the web is free from copyright.
- By modifying someone elses work slightly I am not infringing copyright.
- Recipes are not covered by copyright protection.
