£10 Million Competition Announced for Greener Buildings

The Technology Strategy Board is to launch a new £10 million competition for innovative solutions to improve the energy efficiency and environmental performance of the UK’s housing stock.
The competition and demonstration programme, labelled Retrofit for the Future, will be launched in March 2009 under the Low Impact Buildings Innovation Platform.
The competition will invite proposals for suppliers to design and install new high performance solutions to dramatically improve the energy efficiency of houses. Through this competition, the Technology Strategy Board is hoping to encourage companies to develop innovative solutions to improve the environmental sustainability of existing buildings, dramatically increase performance and reduce costs.
Those that are successful could then be adopted by the Government through public procurement to help meet climate change goals.
