Overall winner, Liam Elliott with Pat Symonds

The Silverstone Innovation Centre Schools Design Challenge is aimed at students aged 11-18. Students can enter in a range of categories which fit their strengths and interests, from desiging a racing car to new tourist attraction or a product which solves an everyday problem.

The final of the 2008 Design Challenge, in the format of a Dragons' Den, took place on Friday 16th May.  Thirty-seven students took part and presented their designs to the Dragons: Pat Symonds (Renault F1), Nicky Grist (Nicky Grist Motorsport), Sarah Franklin (Sarah Franklin Racing),  Terry Mitchell (Bletchley Park),  Marion Barnaby (Porsche),  David Randall (Northamptonshire Enterprise),  Paul Chandler (Scalextric),  Katie Fabian (F1 in Schools) and Stephanie Goldby (ProspectIP).

After a hard morning's work, the Dragons finally announced the winners.  The standard of the entries was extremely high and all the students should be commended for their efforts.
